Policy

Sponsored content policy

Draft · 2026-10-23

Draft for review. Policy draft. The labelling and separation rules are implemented in code; advertising-disclosure wording must be checked against applicable consumer-protection and advertising rules before any campaign runs.

There are no sponsors today, and the sponsored carousel does not render while the campaign list is empty. This policy states the rules that will apply the moment one does.

Labelling

Every paid placement carries a visible Sponsored label and the Vietnamese equivalent Nội dung tài trợ before the reader reaches the content, in the same visual weight as the placement itself. Unlabelled paid content is a policy breach, not a grey area.

Separation from editorial

  • Sponsorship never affects evidence grading, analytic confidence, relevance decisions, dossier ordering by importance, or the correction process.
  • Sponsors have no sight of drafts, no right of approval over coverage, and no ability to remove a claim.
  • Sponsored placements live in their own surface and never appear as a dossier, a claim, a source or a judgment.
  • If a sponsor is the subject of a dossier — or a competitor is — the relationship is disclosed in that dossier's document control section.

Approval workflow

  1. A campaign record is created with a named advertiser, creative, placement, start and end dates, and a destination URL.
  2. It is unpublished until a publisher-level reviewer approves it. The approval is logged with actor and timestamp.
  3. The public surface shows a campaign only while status = approved and the current date is inside its window; expiry is automatic.
  4. Destination URLs are sanitised (http/https only), rendered with rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", and never carry tracking parameters we did not disclose.

Tracking

Impression and click measurement requires consent, so it is off by default. Sponsor cards embed no pixels, no iframes and no remote images. If measurement is ever introduced, it arrives together with the consent gate described in the cookie notice, and only for readers who accept.

Refusal

We refuse sponsorships from betting operators in jurisdictions where they cannot lawfully advertise, from entities under active investigation by the publication, and from any advertiser seeking approval over editorial content or the removal of a published claim.
